aqua nueva x Veuve Clicquot RICH roof terrace
It’s all about rooftops at this time of year. When the weather heats up – eventually – we will be clambering for those rare spaces which look out over London’s stunning skyline. One such space, which is a personal fave of mine, is the rooftop bar at aqua nueva, located just off Regent Street. Already boasting panoramic views of central London’s most recognisable landmarks, the space is being transformed this summer into a tropical garden with a dedicated Champagne bar.
Launching in the UK this week, the Veuve Cliquot RICH Collection is the first Champagne designed to be served on the rocks with a twist. Who better to accompany me to the launch event than my brother Richard, or ‘Rich’ as he’s known. He’s a graphic designer, and might as well have designed these gorgeous silver bottles, as his logo is essentially his name written in cursive text.
Aged for a minimum of 3 years, the the two varieties in the RICH Collection tweak the classic Veuve ratio of grapes ever so slightly, adding a higher dose of the signature Pinot Noir and Meunier grapes. The effect is Champagne cocktails which are fresh and fruity, but also balanced with citrus and floral notes.
Both varieties of RICH feature in Champagne cocktails combining fresh ingredients served over ice. I particularly enjoyed Veuve Cliquot RICH, served with wither slices of refreshing cucumber or a squeeze and the zest of fresh grapefruit (£14.50), which was beautifully fragrant yet subtle in flavour. My favourite drink of the evening however was RICH Rose with either lime or spicy slices of fresh ginger (£16). Just the right amount of zing and tang, the combination is refreshing and cooling – just what’s needed when the sun comes out.
The newly designed roof-terrace is filled with exotic plants, palms and banana trees, creating a beautiful garden sanctuary right in the middle of town. The DJ spins a summer playlist from the central booth, and the terrace doors are wide open, allowing easy access to aqua nueva’s contemporary Spanish kitchen, where you can enjoy declcious plates created by Head chef, Yahir Gonzales.
Come visit, and try something brand new.
