Each morning when I wake up, the first thing I do with my sleepy self is to put together a smoothie. It's the easiest thing in the world in theory, as it's simply a case of throwing together as many healthful and tasty ingredients as possible and blending them together.
I tend to pick up some frozen berries from the supermarket as a base, occasionally throw in a banana for consistency and sweetness, and then a powder of some description.
I've been through protein powders, maca and pure wheatgrass (yuck!), but now there is a new category of green powders. These are the super blends, which include a veritable feast of healthy ingredients in each scoop.
My favourite at the moment is Nature's Plus Organic Ultra Green Powder, which features not only super algae such as spirulina, kelp and chorella, but also 14 essential vitamins and minerals , digestive enzymes and a green vegetable blend.
This works so well in juices as the flavours don't dominate or clash with the fruits, in fact, while giving the juice a reassuring green hue, you can only faintly taste those healthy grasses.
Gluten free and yeast free, this is the kind of powder that you can throw in your morning smoothie without too much thought, but gives you the reassurance that all of your nutritional bases are covered.
